| WHO ARE WE? |
Today's generation of engineers face new and greater challenges: solving problems while overcoming the constraints imposed by climate change, limited resources and aging infrastructure, all while assuming the responsibility of changing current trends in industry, shifting traditional mind-sets to a more sustainable way of thinking and redirecting the visions of politicians and the public. The need to ensure that students are prepared to take on this role has been the driving force behind this committee.
Rome wasn't built in a day and much has to change before sustainable development becomes a top priority in the civil engineering curriculum and profession. However, the first step is to inform and raise awareness of the urgency in implementing sustainable practices.
The committee name "PRE-SERVE" holds two meanings. Firstly, as civil engineers we have a responsibility to serve today's society. In doing so, it is necessary to ensure that there are sufficient resources for future generations. Therefore, the underlying meaning is to PRESERVE in order to PRE- serve future societies.
